Episcopal Church Vital Practices recently published an article on engendering donor trust. In that regard, Grace Episcopal Alexandria is a prime example of not best practices, but worst practices.

Consider:

Best practice: Pass a balanced budget.

Grace Episcopal: Routinely has budget with a deficit.

Best practice: Live within your means.

Grace Episcopal: Pays $100,000 bonuses to rector. Draws on savings to pay for parties.

Best practice: Set aside replacement reserves.

Grace Episcopal: Zeroed out token contribution to capital reserves. Borrows to pay for repairs.

Best practice: Adhere to church canons.

Grace Episcopal: Routinely ignores church canons, including internal controls. Forces out members in violation of church canons. Evinces zero accountability.
